about

First released as a double CD in 2005. loosetorque.com/septet.html

'The strength of the performance comes from this Anglo-African admixture, with the band voicing and sudden tempo changes.Throughout the eight tracks the septet delivers the type of closely arranged bravura performance that's polyphonically sophisticated yet rhythmically open. Who knows, with a few of the tunes replete with insistent stay-in-your-memory hooks, the audience at The Plough may have been moved enough to execute the odd dance step to the foot- tapping rhythm.....through the musicians' unshowy use of extended techniques , the 2 CD set also points out the links between improv and so-called more popular forms such as funk and kwela' - Ken Waxman, Jazz Weekly

Davison, Stephens and Ventura staff a hell of an engine room and the pace is pretty furious...Bicoe is biting, Underwood churning while Corbett's flutter contrasts well with Ventura's cranky scrabbling guitar - Jason Bivens Signal to Noise.

It's a hard-hitting two-CD gala that rises above the norm. Vastly entertaining and irrefutably energetic, this is one of those blasts from the past that transcends the norm - Glenn Astarita All About Jazz
