Antwerp 1988
Fast Colour was one of the few (of many) groups assembled by John Stevens that unfortunately didn't make it into the recording studio. We played gigs in the UK with various lineups using these pieces, but this was the first time with John's intended full lineup and all the pieces fully segued. Fortunately, Barbara Puckwana asked the house soundman Michael Huon to make a cassette copy from the desk.- Nick Stephens.

Fast Colour reflects Dyani's South African roots. Stevens spends most of the album playing an exultant swing and the horn lines weave around jubilant melodies, anchored by Stephens' gooey bass. The highpoint of this disc is not necessarily anyone's individual contributions but hearing how giants like Pukwana, Parker and Beckett fuse together, Parker in particular more celebratory than cerebral, but still always recognizable. - Andrey Henkin, All About Jazz.

Mike Osborne was a very special musician...I remember him as quietly intense and thoughtful and not a seeker of the limelight...I must have seen him play dozens of times in many small venues from ‘68 to ‘75 or so...I loved his playing...a high end technician but full of heart as well as head...I still listen to his music a lot on the original vinyl and i’m so pleased this gig has surfaced.
